Hey guys, I compiled a list of fun things to do in the Burgh this summer.
Run the Pittsburgh Marathon
The Pittsburgh Marathon / Half marathon is a fun event. It’s pretty unique because of the VAST amount of hills that you have to run. For example, my Friend Joe, who owns a company called Tree Service Fresno located out in Fresno, Ca, was shocked when we ran the Pittsburgh marathon last year. Even though he’s in great shape, he had no clue that you could get that tired running a marathon / half marathon, because out where he lives, its literally completely flat. It’s funny how us Pittsburghers just take it for granted that we live in an incredibly hilly place with steep inclines, while people living in other places get absolutely exhausted walking in a place like our beloved city! LOL
Visit Heinz Hall for an Event
Heinz Hall is an amazing theater and concert venue located in the heart of Downtown. It was built in 1927- and click the previous link to check upcoming events. You can visit shows such as Jay Leno (coming up) or the Blue man group, or just visit the amazing, world class orchestra for one of their concerts. I remember seeing multiple events here as a kid and young adult, and still go here when something good comes around, like the Transiberian Orchestra.
Go to a Buccos Game at PNC Park
Ever been to a Pittsburgh Pirates game? Recently, they’ve become more fun (although when I was in High School, ‘rush tickets’ out in left field were only $8) since they started winning. As you know, our beloved Pirates went 20 years with a losing season, ever since Barry Bonds couldn’t throw out a guy with a bum leg in the playoffs in ’94. Anyway… Games are really fun, the walk across the bridge at night is magical, and when they win, it’s even more fun! If you’re into more active sports, you’ll have to wait until the fall to check out the Pittsburgh Steelers, and captain insano type players such as James Harrison.
Bike along the river path
There is an awesome path right along the river (and actually takes you right by Heinz Field – the football stadium and PNC park- the baseball stadium. It goes for a few miles along the river, provides an incredible view along the river and downtown. It’s one of my favorite things to do, just take you’re bike down to the fountain that you see coming off the bridge into town where the two (Actually three) rivers meet and form. Take a nice, smooth bike ride along the path, and you’ll never be disappointed when you’re done. It’s a great form of exercise and you can do it with as many friends as you want.
